The Grand Center for Arts & Culture
At the heart of New Ulm’s cultural landscape is The Grand Center for Arts & Culture. Housed in the historic Grand Hotel, The Grand offers a variety of programming throughout the year, including live music performances, art education classes, monthly gallery exhibitions, artist studio rentals, and community cultural events. The Grand’s mission is to enrich community life through arts and cultural education and experiences, and to support local artists by offering them opportunities to develop and demonstrate their artistry.
4 Pillars Gallery
Located on the second floor of The Grand, the 4 Pillars Gallery hosts approximately ten exhibits per year across all mediums. It also holds ArtScape each fall, which is the annual juried art show. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm during exhibits.
Live Music at the Grand Kabaret
The Grand Kabaret, situated within The Grand, features live music performances on Friday nights from 7 pm to 9:30 pm. The venue showcases a diverse range of musical genres, providing a platform for both local and regional artists.
Historical and Cultural Sites
New Ulm is home to several historical sites that contribute to its cultural richness. Turner Hall, built in 1873, is the oldest Turner Hall in the United States still in its original use. It features murals of scenes from Germany, painted by Guido Methua (1873), Christian Heller (1887), and Anton Gag (1901). These murals have been restored with support from a grant from the Minnesota Historical Society.
The Brown County Historical Society, located at 2 North Broadway, houses three floors of exhibits and one of the state’s largest archives. It offers visitors a deep dive into the region’s history and cultural heritage.

For instance, the “Lunation: 29 Days of Darkness & Light” exhibit at the 4 Pillars Gallery focused on the relationship of humans to the cosmos, featuring works from 28 different artists.
